I heard someone say this quote yesterday, “You’re either part of the solution or you’re part of the problem,” in reference to the world today.

I feel like there is so much hate in our world today. Hate towards the government, immigrants, women, men, religion. Police violence, mass shootings, hate marches, threats of nuclear war, natural disasters, online bullying. And although social media has been a way for people to find like minded individuals it’s also been a place for people to hide in a bubble of their own making, never to explore the other side. But how is anything ever solved without first entering into a conversation? If you don’t like someone else’s ideas you can just unfollow them. Or you can say horrible things to them under the veil of anonymity. As much as social media can spread the message of love and acceptance it can also spread the message of hate and fear.

That led me to thinking about purpose of Sunflower Alley, for exploring an alternative path to happiness. Anne and I talked about creating a community for like-minded people, about offering options for people to explore a different path. That is exactly what it is. But I also feel like there is more to it. I feel like Sunflower Alley is life change, a transformation in how I see the world, the choices I make, the people I surround myself with, the energy I allow around me.

I don’t think social media is the answer but I do think it’s a tool that can be used for good. But it’s a tricky thing. Creating a community of like-minded individuals has its downfalls. But maybe it’s more than that. Maybe it’s telling those people out there that are suffering, there is a better way to exist. Not by preaching a message, but by example. Because once you open yourself up to the Universe everything looks and feels different. And maybe if enough people can see that we’re all on the same side, the healing process can begin. Maybe Sunflower Alley can be a tiny addition to the solution. That is my hope.
